The Genomics and Proteomics Network of the State of Pará (RPGP) is one of the five research networks of the Research Foundation of the State of Pará (FAPESPA), and was officially presented by the State Governor on April 14th, 2009. The network is composed by research and education institutions of the Brazilian states of Pará, Minas Gerais and São Paulo, namely, the Federal University of Pará (UFPA); the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation in Eastern Amazonia (Embrapa Amazônia Oriental); the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG); the René Rachou Research Institute; and the University of São Paulo.
With the support of the Secretariat for the Development of Science and Technology of the State of Pará (SEDECT), Eletronorte and Finep, the RPGP makes available two next-generation nucleic acid sequencing platforms: SOLiD (Sequencing by Oligo Ligation Detection) and Sanger 3130 and 3730. The network also enjoys a modern infrastructure for research in proteomics and mass spectrometry analysis.
The original projects encompassed by the consortium are: the transcriptional interaction between the pepper plant Piper sp. and its fungal pathogen Fusarium sp.; the human gastric cancer transcriptome; the Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis pangenome; and molecular modelling of the three-dimensional structure of proteins and bioinformatics.
